Family members of three individuals who were fatally shot in Northdale in September by a security guard – including his own daughter and her mother – expressed the desire for the death penalty to still be in place, in order for the perpetrator to experience the suffering his victims endured.
Sandile Ngcobo (33) received a life sentence in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Tuesday for pleading guilty to four charges, including three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
The defendant received a life sentence for each murder and an additional 10 years for attempted murder, with both sentences to be served simultaneously.
The perpetrator fatally shot Noluthando Purity Mkhize (28) and their three-year-old daughter, Lisakhanya Sinqobile Mkhize. He also killed Thabiso Wonder Ntshangase (26). Their two-year-old daughter, Yongama Mkhize, was also shot but managed to survive.
The occurrence occurred in the Nhlalakahle region of Northdale on September 9.
According to Ngcobo’s admission of guilt, he went to Mkhize’s residence to deliver clothes for their kids that he had purchased. However, an argument ensued between Ngcobo and Mkhize during the visit.
