International Professional Soccer is largely a business built on entertainment for the spectators. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is abuzz with transfer news as regards to Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa. Bafana Bafana youngsters Relebohile Mofokeng and Jayden Adams have several clubs courting them for the League. This has raised high hopes for South African Soccer.
- La Liga giants Sevilla FC are monitoring Mamelodi Sundowns star Jayden Adams, who has long been on their radar. It remains unclear whether they will attempt to lure the 23-year-old.
- Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their interest in Pyramids forward Fiston Mayele.
- If Zamalek’s R25.8 million bid in January is anything to go by, Orlando Pirates will have several foreign clubs bidding for Relebohile Mofokeng in the offseason.
- Contract talks between PSL veteran Themba Zwane and Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly hit a roadblock, prompting speculation of an unlikely exit.
The Brazilians are reluctant to let Adams leave and will do all they can to keep the Bafana stare in Tshwane for next season.
In spite of trade tariffs being imposed on South Africa and the rise in VAT on prices the country’s professional soccer remains highly lucrative.
- La Liga giants Sevilla FC remains a major club in professional soccer and Jayden Adams remains a raw player that will attract the highest interest due to his talent. Talent in soccer as well as hard work will suffice in attracting the major leagues.
- Kaizer Chiefs will be a stepping stone in professional sport for Mayele’s career.
- Lucratively speaking Mofokeng will come into a great deal of money depending on which club or league’s offer he takes. Mofokeng will have to focus on using all his talent available.
- Business in soccer like any other sports has its highs and lows. Themba Zwane may have better luck with other clubs that are looking to court him. It is important not to let your ego get in the way of your career, be it in sports or otherwise.
Meanwhile at the South African FA Cup Rare Orlando Pirates beginner Kabelo Dlamini and Kaizer Chiefs substitute Ashley du Preez on Sunday scored their first goals respectively to secure their sides’ places in the finals.
Dlamini struck midway through the first half to give title-holders Pirates a 1-0 semi-finals victory over Marumo Gallants in Soweto. Later, Du Preez scored from close range on 89 minutes as Chiefs came from behind to pip Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in Pretoria. Teboho Mokoena had broken the deadlock before Wandile Duba equalised. It will be a dream climax to the cup with the most popular clubs in South Africa certain to attract a sell-out 60,000 crowd to Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on May 10. Chiefs pipped Pirates on penalties when they last met in an FA Cup final, 19 years ago, also in the Indian Ocean port city. Success was special for Chiefs as they not only kept alive hopes of winning a first trophy since 2015, but also qualified for the 2025-2026 CAF Confederation Cup.
This will certainly be a moment that will go down in the history books of South African football concerning who scored the winning goal. The spectators would have been driven into a frenzy with anticipation by the two players. It was going to be intense and petrifying moment for both players. In the end it was Marumo Gallantz who scored the winning goal for Kaizer Chiefs. This took Durban’s state of the art soccer stadium by storm. With over sixty thousand spectators in the seats of Moses Mabhida Stadium the closing act to score the final goal would have taken the onlookers to the edge of their seats.
Chiefs won through because Pirates had to deal with the resulting penalties of the fouls they committed. All things panned out to Chiefs’ favour. The fact that Chiefs won against Pirates a second time shows they have a habit for picking strong players.
