Empowering Youth Through Sport: Al Ansaar Outreach Partners with SAPS and School Matters for Anti-Drug, Anti-Bullying Soccer Tournament
In a vibrant show of unity, purpose, and community spirit, the Al Ansaar Outreach Department, in collaboration with School Matters and the South African Police Service (SAPS), hosted a powerful soccer tournament on Saturday, 17 May 2025, dedicated to raising awareness and taking a firm stand against drugs, bullying, and racism in schools.
The event brought together learners from four local schools, each taking to the field not just to compete for victory, but to be part of a broader message: “Say NO to drugs, bullying, and racism.” The initiative aimed to engage youth in a positive and proactive way, using sport as a medium to build teamwork, respect, and resilience—while offering a safe space to address some of the critical social challenges facing learners today.
The soccer tournament was more than just a game; it was a statement of solidarity. Uniformed SAPS officers and community leaders were present, underscoring the importance of multi-sector collaboration in tackling issues affecting young people. Their presence also helped build trust and open communication between youth and law enforcement—an essential component in creating safer, more inclusive environments.
To support the participants, the Al Ansaar Outreach team sponsored 100 hotdogs and cooldrinks, ensuring that all players and attendees were well-nourished and energized throughout the event. This small act of hospitality added warmth to a day already filled with passion, purpose, and positivity.
“This tournament is a reminder that when communities come together—across sectors and backgrounds—we can create real, lasting impact,” said a representative from Al Ansaar Outreach. “Our youth are watching and learning from us, and it’s our responsibility to guide them with both action and example.”
The event concluded with heartfelt thanks to all stakeholders involved—from the educators and learners to SAPS, community partners, and volunteers—who each played a role in making the day a success.
As the sun set over the final match, one thing was clear: this was more than just sport. It was a celebration of unity, a stand for justice, and a commitment to empowering the next generation with the tools they need to lead with integrity, empathy, and courage.
