Recipe of the week: Homemade Toffee Apples
INGREDIENTS:
-8 large Granny Smith apples
-3 cups castor sugar
-80ml water
-60ml liquid glucose or light corn syrup
-1 tsp white vinegar
-red food coloring
-8 long, thick wooden skewers
METHOD:
1.Line a large baking tray with wax paper, then set aside.
2.Wash apples, then pat dry.
3.Push the skewer sticks into each apple.
4.In a large pot, add the sugar, water & glucose and stir constantly over low heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
5.Bring the syrup to a boil then remove from heat.
6.Add the food coloring, then let the bubbles subside.
7.Dip each apple into the syrup and turn around a few times to ensure it is fully coated.
8.Leave the coated apples to dry on the prepared baking tray.
9.When cool, cover individually in cellophane wrap and tie a pretty bow.
