Trump Confirms Ceasefire Between Israel and Iran Now in Effect

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran has officially come into effect, following nearly two weeks of heightened military tension and cross-border attacks.

The announcement was made during a media briefing on Monday evening, with Trump stating that both countries had agreed to “stand down” and pause further military operations. The ceasefire comes after a series of urgent diplomatic efforts involving several international mediators, including Qatar and Oman.

The conflict escalated sharply earlier this month, with Israel launching targeted strikes on key Iranian sites, followed by a wave of Iranian missile and drone retaliation. The violence prompted global concern, with calls from the United Nations and various world leaders for an immediate halt to hostilities.

Trump, who has taken an active role in backchannel talks, said the ceasefire should hold if both sides honour their commitments. He did, however, warn that the situation is still delicate and may shift depending on how the region responds in the coming days.

Israeli leadership has described its military campaign as a strategic success, claiming it weakened Iran’s military infrastructure. Iran has not formally commented on the ceasefire but has signalled that it is prepared to de-escalate if its territorial integrity is respected.

The announcement has been welcomed by the international community, although analysts caution that the underlying tensions remain unresolved. Observers say any violation could quickly unravel the fragile calm.

More updates are expected as the situation develops and global leaders continue to monitor the ceasefire closely.
