38 Suspects Arrested in Mountain Rise Crime Crackdown Over the WeekendPietermaritzburg

Thirty-eight suspects were arrested over the weekend during a high-density police operation conducted in the Mountain Rise policing precinct.

The coordinated crime prevention blitz, which took place between Friday night and Sunday evening, targeted known crime hotspots within the Mountain Rise area. According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Pancheal Singh, the operation formed part of a broader strategy to curb violent crime and improve community safety.

During the operation, police executed targeted raids, conducted stop-and-search procedures, and set up multiple roadblocks in collaboration with provincial traffic officials. These measures led to the recovery of weapons, illegal goods, and the detention of individuals suspected of a range of offences, including assault, domestic violence, housebreaking, possession of dangerous weapons, reckless driving, and damage to property.

“Our aim was to dismantle networks responsible for weekend criminal activity and restore a sense of order and safety in the area,” said Warrant Officer Singh. “This operation has sent a clear message that law enforcement remains vigilant and committed to protecting our communities.”

The arrests have been welcomed by residents who have raised ongoing concerns about increased criminal activity in the Mountain Rise and surrounding areas. All suspects are expected to appear in court during the course of the week.

Police have urged residents to continue reporting suspicious behaviour and criminal incidents through the appropriate channels.
