The war against the Palestinians never ceases. In central Gaza, a Palestinian doctor had been killed and three people injured, in an Israeli attack. In the West Bank Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian homes and property – in northern and southern parts of the territory. The attacks across the enclaves of the Palestinian territories on Saturday, the fourth day of the Islamic holiday of Eid-Al-Adha, came amid continued Israeli violations of a “ceasefire” set up by the United States (US) –implemented in October aimed at halting Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.
Dr Jamal Abu Aboun, the head of anaesthesia at Al-Yafa Medical Hospital in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah, was killed in an Israeli strike near the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, also in Deir al-Balah on Saturday. “The body of Jamal Abu Aoun and three injured people, including a child, had arrived at the hospital following an Israeli drone strike that targeted a group of civilians near the hospital,” a medical source at Al-Aqsa hospital told the Anadolu news agency. Earlier, Israeli artillery shelling targeted areas east and south of Khan Younis city in southern Gaza. Another artillery strike targeted al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.
At least 922 Palestinians have been killed and 2,786 others injured in Israeli attacks since the October “ceasefire”, according to the Gaza Media Office.
The Israelis are now attacking medica practitioners among the Palestinians. This should serve as a warning that Israel leaves no stone unturned in crippling Palestinian infrastructure and society. The Israelis are carrying out an unchecked slaughter of Palestinians, and continues to do so with the blessing of the Washington political and industrial establishment. This conflict is intended to add fuel to a fire across the divide between the Western world order and Islamic nations. Tensions are destined to flare up in a Third World War if this status quo of the Lazes fare (let it be) attitude continues. As frustration builds, mass demonstrations on the world’s streets will resume again.
In the US, President Donald Trump and his administration will respond ever harsher, the elite of the rubber tooted opposition Democratic Party will raise their voices but cat call for little action. Democratic Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will express concern but be ignored.
The European Union sanctioned four additional entities and three individuals who it described as extremist settlers. Those sanctioned included Nachala and its director Daniella Weiss, as well as Regavim, another settler movement co-founded by Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. Nonetheless, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signalled an intent to entrench Israel’s hold over Gaza in a direct contravention of the October “ceasefire”. On May 28, he publicly directed the army to expand its control of the Gaza Strip from approximately 60 to 70 percent in footage aired by Israel’s Channel 12. When an audience member shouted that Israel should take the whole of Gaza, he replied: “We are going in order — first 70 percent.”
Time for the collective of the Palestinian people is running out. An escalation of the conflict is brewing. The Israelis are not going to stop unless a leash and chain – in the form of sanctions – is imposed on them. Netanyahu is not always a man of his word, but when he promises to re-occupy sixty – to – seventy percent of the Gaza Strip he can be counted on to be true to it. Now is not the time to delay by applying old methods of reason. Now is the time for a serious boycott of all goods from Israel, the US and any other nations supportive of the Israeli state. At present the time is to exert all political and economic pressure on the Israelis and their powerful lobby in Washington the American Israeli Public Affairs committee (AIPAC).
Other wise there is a very bleak future on the horizon, that will see the explosion of pent-up bitterness and resentment that will echo for generations.
