Communities across the World including South Africa observe World Autism Awareness Day today.
A day dedicated to raising awareness about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and promoting inclusion for people living with the condition.
Autism is a developmental disorder that affects how people communicate, interact socially, and experience the world around them. It ranges from mild to severe, and each individual’s experience is unique. World Autism Awareness Day aims to educate the public, challenge misconceptions, and encourage support for those affected by autism.
In Durban, a non-profit organisation, Action in Autisim is preparing to stage a silent walk to Durban City Hall on April 23rd, to mark the World Autism Acceptance Month. The initiative seeks to promote understanding, inclusion, and empathy for people living with autism, while also highlighting the importance of community support.
The United Nations established the 2nd of April as World Autism Awareness Day to highlight the Importance of understanding and acceptance. Each year, global campaigns focus on inclusion, early diagnosis, and providing opportunities for people on the spectrum to participate fully in the society.
World Autism Awareness Day serves as a reminder of the importance of empathy, patience, and inclusion for everyone regardless of ability.
