Recipe of the week: Meebos Chutney

My sister Najma Laher’s recipe.

INGREDIENTS:
-6 pieces of meebos
-³/⁴ cup white vinegar
-¹/² cup water
-1 tblsp fine jeero
-¹/² tsp salt
-1 tblsp methi masala
-¹/² cup sugar
-4 or 5 curry leaves
-¹/² tsp sesame seeds
-¹/² tsp mustard seeds
-2 tblsp oil

METHOD:
1.In a small dish add the white vinegar and water together then soak the meebos pieces in the vinegar mixture and leave overnight.
2.Boil the meebos until soft.
3.Add the fine jeero, salt, methi masala and sugar to the softened meebos and boil for another 5 minutes.
4.When the meebos mixture is cool, liquidize it until smooth.
5.In a pan, heat the oil then add the curry leaves, sesame seeds and mustard seeds.
6.Remove from heat when the mustard seeds sizzle and add to the meebos chutney mixture and mix well.
7.Add the chutney into bottles and keep refrigerated.
