Recipe of the week: Dinner rolls
Makes 14 rolls
INGREDIENTS:
-1 cup warm milk
-2¹/⁴ tsp instant yeast
-2 tblsp white sugar, divided
-1 large egg, beaten
-¹/⁴ cup unsalted butter, softened & cut into 4 pieces
-1 tsp salt
-3 cups white flour or bread flour
Optional:
Brush tops of the rolls with egg and sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds before baking
METHOD:
1.In a bowl add the milk, 1 tblsp of sugar and the yeast then whisk together and leave aside for 5 minutes.
2.In a large mixing bowl add the butter, remaining sugar, egg and salt then beat for a few minutes.
3.Add the milk mixture and continue beating for a free minutes.
4.Grafually add the flour and knead to make a soft and somewhat sticky dough. Add more flour if necessary.
4.Cover the dough with cling wrap and place somewhere warm to rise for 1-2 hours.
5.Grease a large, round cake pan and preheat oven to 175°C.
6.Shape the dough into 14 balls then arrange into the greased cake pan. Cover with cling wrap and leave to rise again.
7.Brush the tops with a beaten egg and sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds. This is optional.
8.Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden.
NB: These delicious rolls must be stored in an airtight container for upto 3 days.
